1830s Georgian Gold Cannetille Earrings
A beautifully rendered pair of earrings that are incredibly dramatic yet light on the ears. Wires are a later replacement, probably to the old front to back style. Continental in origin and in near mint condition.
Inspired by embroidery, cannetille is a close relative of filigree work which typically features fine gold wires or thinly hammered sheets. With a need to economize and to accommodate the exaggerated styles of earrings, the technique of cannetille gold work became very popular in the 1820's and 1830's.
